| Kim Oppenheimer, Ph.D. I believe that change occurs within the context of a collaborative, trusting, safe, and supportive environment. My style is active, open, and direct. I give feedback, and believe that what you do between sessions is just as important for you in reaching your therapy goals as what we talk about. I also believe that symptoms, such as anxiety and depression, occur when there is not a good fit between people and their environment, such as in a relationship or job. Thus, my orientation to therapy is a blending of family systems and cognitive – behavioral theories. I treat individual adults, adolescents, couples, and families. I specialize in anxiety disorders, depression, relationship issues (including mother-daughter), couples therapy, workplace stress, family transitions to college, adaptation to illness/injury, eating disorders, and divorce adjustment. I also perform child custody evaluations. I am co-owner of Atlanta Psych Consultants, LLC and have been in full-time private practice in the Dunwoody/Sandy Springs area since 1982. Formerly, I was an Associate Professor of Psychology at Georgia State University and an Assistant Professor of Family Medicine and Psychiatry and Director of Student Health Psychological Services at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta. I have been licensed to practice psychology since 1986. I received my Ph.D. from the University of South Carolina in Clinical – Community Psychology, and completed my internship year at the VA Medical Center in Palo Alto, California. I have a Master’s degree from Texas A&M University and a Bachelor’s degree from Florida State University. I have numerous professional presentations and research publications in the areas of anxiety disorders and divorce adjustment.
